The Sweetest Promise

When I haven't spent time with God, I feel it. Even if it's only been a day away from Him, I feel the drain of it. I have to strain to keep a good attitude. Worries, accusations, fears, and doubts begin to push their fingers into my mind. I get weak.

That's only after one day.

I can't imagine what it would feel like to spend a week away from His presence. I've had bad times where I've deliberately tried to avoid God and refused to give into the pull I felt from Him. But in the past two years, I probably haven't been able to make it more than four days or so without giving into His pull, even if I'm running away from Him because of the weight of some sin I committed.

We can spend so much time running away from the Lord for some reason or another. Either we're scared to face Him, or we're "too busy," or we've hardened our hearts toward Him and can barely hear His urgent whisper to us. But amidst all of this distraction and nonsense, amongst all of the lies and fears that cause panic and tell you that you can't go back to Him, we forget the most amazing and beautiful promise.

God said "if you seek Me, then you will find Me."

That takes my breath away. That absolutely brings me to tears. The God of the universe has promised us that if we look for Him, He will come to us. Unfailingly. Every time.

There is no sweeter promise. No whispered words from a lover could ever come close to that promise.  It doesn't matter where you've been, what you've done, who you are, or how long you've been away. If you get quiet, if you stop running, if you cry out, He will come to you and answer you. I know that I have done everything imaginable to be unworthy of this promise - to be unworthy of any sort of love from God. But still He loves me, and the depth of that love is so wide and so deep that He promises to come to me unfailingly every time I ask for Him. And He promises the same for you.

No matter what's going on around you, no matter what your situation is, you don't need anything like you need to sit in the presence of God.

Put the phone down. Stop running to that guy or that girl. Put on some worship music, and just sit. Open the bible, and just read. Pray. Prayer doesn't mean you mumble meaningless, memorized words. God wants your heart. He wants you to pour out what you're thinking and feeling, even if you're angry or sad or you just "don't get it."

You don't have to strive to find the presence of God. He has promised to come to you, and He is faithful.
