Ha.
Can we just take a second to recognize how much
Christ completely, absolutely humiliated Satan? Satan, full of anger and
plotting vengeance after being booted out of Heaven, decided to get his
revenge by going after God’s most beloved creation. He first damages
Adam’s relationship to The Lord enough that Adam wasn’t following God
enough to correctly lead his wife. Eve, who followed her husband, was
then led astray since she was following somebody who was not leading
correctly. Satan then tricks the weaker, gentler component of the
creation and boom, sin.
But wait.
Genesis 3:15 “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
So Satan tries to get back at God through the woman. And God gets back at Satan once and for all through Eve’s offspring…through a human…through that same flesh and blood that Satan tried to corrupt. How? Through Jesus. Jesus is the offspring, and he humiliates Satan.
It would have been different if God in all His majesty smacked Satan down. But because he became the “weak human” that Satan thought he could take advantage of, and defeated him in that form, he completely humiliated Satan.
I can’t even deal with that. The amount of love and protection and devotion and restoration God shows us by defeating evil in our own human form melts my heart. That is the most beautiful and lasting impression of His love and acceptance of us that I can ever imagine. He validates us through that. He validates what it means to be human,
to be man and woman. He shows how much He loves and defends His creation. He showed us that humans can triumph. We can make it! We can overcome! Through Him. Because our weaknesses magnify His strength and power and love more than ever.
Oh, how He loves.
